Why Triad’s 750 All-Wheel Drive Model Is the Future of Mobility Scooters

The mobility scooter market has seen many products come and go, but few have created as much controversy as the Challenger X, a model that is widely known for its attempts to copy the 2015 Triad 750 XL. In a market where innovation and safety are paramount, the Challenger X was a product that relied more on tactics of imitation than true advancement.

Now, with the introduction of Triad’s latest innovation, the Triad 750 All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with BMS-powered lithium technology, it is clear why the Challenger X, and similar products, are being put to rest in favor of a truly superior solution.

The Birth of the Challenger X: Imitation, Not Innovation

The Challenger X, by Top Mobility, to this day remains a clear attempt to reverse-engineer the highly regarded Triad 750 XL, the mobility scooter that had set new standards for performance and safety since its release in 2014. Triad had established itself as a leader in the market, known for its powerful 750W motor, superior design, and groundbreaking features. Triad’s motor was a key differentiator, setting it apart from competitors with its innovative engineering and intellectual property protections.

However, Top Mobility, who had been a client of Triad, sought to capitalize on Triad’s success by creating a copy of the 750 XL, and they named it the Challenger X. Unable to use Triad's proprietary 750W motor due to intellectual property restrictions, Top Mobility decided to falsely market their product with a peak wattage of 800W, which was misleading because the actual motor in the Challenger X only produced a maximum of 576W.

This was a clear attempt to make the Challenger X seem more powerful than it actually was, a marketing ploy aimed at deceiving customers into thinking it outperformed the Triad 750.

Excerpt from Challenger X Specifications:

Although the Challenger X gained limited commercial success, its design was ultimately based on imitation rather than innovation. The name itself, "Challenger," seemingly was chosen to position the scooter as a competitor to the Triad 750 XL, but the Challenger X's performance and safety features has always left much to be desired. While it was a functional scooter, it was built with outdated technology and relied on misleading specifications, making it clear that the focus was on competing with Triad with a lower quality product rather than advancing the technology in the 3 wheel mobility scooter industry and providing a high quality long lasting product.

Triad's Response: Innovation Over Imitation

In response to the Challenger X, Triad decided to reengineer the Triad 750 XL in 2015, and push the envelope by enhancing performance with a redesigned version, called the Triad 750 CSX (Crossover XL). The Triad 750 CSX was the first to incorporate crucial safety features such as all-wheel disc brakes, and we introduced a reduction in overall width, bringing it below the 32" threshold. By reengineering the rear wheels and making much wider tires with disc brakes, these changes significantly improved the scooter's stability, control, versatility over wet ground, and braking performance, all while maintaining the core strengths of the original model.

But Triad’s commitment to safety and performance didn’t stop with the 750 CSX. Triad understood that the future of mobility scooters lay not in simply competing on raw wattage or marketing tactics, but in a complete overhaul of the core technology that powers these vehicles. This realization led to the development of the dual rear motor Triad 1000W Quantum Dual model in 2018. Upon building upon the success of the Triad Quantum Dual, new for 2025, we are introducing the Triad 750 All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model, both cutting-edge scooters that integrate advanced BMS (Battery Management System)-powered lithium technology with the latest advancement being a true all-wheel-drive system for an unprecedented level of performance, safety, and reliability.

Triad 750 AWD with BMS Lithium: The Future of Mobility Scooters

The introduction of the Triad 750 All-Wheel Drive with BMS-powered lithium batteries marks a new era in the mobility scooter market. This innovative scooter offers a combination of performance, safety, and technology that far surpasses anything the Challenger X or other competitors in the market can offer.

1. True All-Wheel Drive for Enhanced Stability and Control

One of the standout features of the Triad 750 AWD model is its true all-wheel-drive system, which delivers power to all three wheels simultaneously, ensuring unparalleled stability and control. Whether you're navigating uneven terrain, going uphill, or dealing with slippery surfaces, the AWD system significantly improves the scooter’s traction and handling. This is a major upgrade over the Challenger X, which, despite its false claims of higher wattage, lacks the performance capabilities to handle more “challenging” environments safely.

For users, this means a much smoother and more reliable ride, even in high resistance conditions, which is especially important for versatility mobility. The added stability makes the Triad 750 AWD a safer and more practical option for those who need a mobility scooter for daily use, whether they are traveling on city streets or tackling rougher terrains.

2. BMS-Powered Lithium Batteries for Superior Performance and Safety

Perhaps the most significant upgrade in the Triad 750 AWD model is its BMS-powered lithium battery system. Traditional mobility scooters often use outdated, heavy lead-acid batteries that are prone to inefficiency, shorter lifespans, and high replacement costs for batteries which can total more than $1200 per year. In contrast, Triad’s new BMS-powered lithium battery offers a host of benefits that make it far superior to any other product on the market. Just one original 6 lb. Triad battery that comes as standard equipment on all Triad models is equal to more than $1800 in battery replacement costs for competitors with heavy lead acid batteries.

Battery Management System (BMS) is a cutting-edge technology that optimizes the performance of lithium batteries by ensuring that each cell is operating within safe parameters. This system monitors the battery’s voltage, temperature, and charge cycles, preventing overcharging or overheating, and with proper charging practices, balances the battery pack for more than 800 full recharge cycles lifetime use. The BMS ensures that the Triad 750 AWD operates at peak efficiency, extending the battery's lifespan for up to 8 years and improves safety. Additionally, lithium batteries are significantly lighter than their lead-acid counterparts, making the Triad 750 AWD easier to maneuver and transport. A 50% discharge depth for SLA (Sealed Lead-Acid) batteries in the Challenger X,  means you can only use half of the battery’s total capacity for operations. SLA batteries degrade faster and in high voltage operations on a mobility scooter SLA battery will not discharge energy beyond 50% DoD (Depth of Discharge). When a vehicle is under load (e.g., carrying weight or going uphill), it requires more power, which drains the SLA batteries faster. This increased demand reduces the distance you can travel, as the battery’s energy is consumed more quickly under stress, effectively halving the expected range compared to ideal conditions with no load. If a scooter has SLA batteries and they tell you it will go 20 miles, that is without a person on it. Expect to cut that distance in half and expect to replace those batteries every 3-4 months with daily use. At $300 per battery change, that can equal up to $1200 per year in replacement battery costs with weeks of downtime every year.

The longer-lasting, more efficient BMS powered Smart Battery with automotive grade cell technology allows all Triad models to achieve longer ranges on a single charge, making it the ideal choice for individuals who need to travel further or use their scooter throughout the day. Triad competitors, in contrast, still use outdated lead acid batteries which are much heavier, have the lowest energy density of any battery, and under perform with limited range and declining overall performance after every charge.

Environmental Responsibility

The Triad 750 AWD's lithium battery system is not only more efficient and safer, but it is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lead-acid batteries. As the world increasingly turns its focus on sustainability, Triad’s use of lithium-ion technology helps to reduce the environmental impact of the mobility scooter industry, making any Triad model a more responsible choice for eco-conscious consumers.

The End of the Challenger X Era?

As Triad introduces its 750 All-Wheel Drive model, the Challenger X is finally being discontinued. With its low-output motor, antiquated battery technology, and marketing tactics based on misleading specifications, the Challenger X was never able to compete with the true innovation and quality that Triad consistently delivers. While the Challenger X may have had limited success by imitating Triad’s earlier models, the introduction of the Triad 750 AWD marks the beginning of a new era for mobility scooters—one where innovation, safety, and performance are at the forefront.

Queen: "Another One Bites the Dust"

However, we are confident that we haven’t seen the last of the Challenger X. We’re sure that they will attempt to do the same thing again and create a new Challenger model that looks strikingly similar to the Triad 750. They’ll likely try to confuse the market, presenting a product that seems comparable but ultimately falls short in terms of performance, safety, and innovation.
